Partnership with ZINEBI - Bilbao International Documentary and Short Film Festival.
Invited by the Swiss organization ART for The World, fourteen experienced and renowned filmmakers from the Americas, Asia, Africa, and Europe created twelve short films that make up this anthology feature.
First and foremost, this project aims to spark a widespread debate about the impact we, as humanity, have had on nature—that vast and uncontrollable universe that surrounds us and with which we must learn to coexist more harmoniously. However, the short films are as rich in form as they are diverse in style and genre across various locations around the world, including Mexico, Brazil, Morocco, and Japan. Science fiction, documentary, children’s animation, drama, travelogue, comedy, or playful piece.
These filmmakers present intriguing paradoxes, moving fables, and complex symbiotic relationships that make it difficult to arrive at a simple solution. Contrary to what one might expect, in many of these works, humans are not portrayed as the natural world’s sworn enemy, but rather as beings capable of compassion and ingenuity—and yet also as just another victim of tragic climate change.
Likewise, nature’s exuberance and determination to emerge in the most unexpected places—to the point of invading the ruins of an ancient empire—highlight the ephemeral nature of humanity, while the landscapes, observed with wonder and unique sensitivity, appear elusive and eternal in their majesty. SCREENING AND RECEPTION.
A screening produced with the supportof the Bilbao International Documentary and Short Film Festival (ZINEBI).
At the invitation of the Swiss organization ART for The World, twelve established and renowned directors from the Americas, Asia, Africa, and Europe created twelve short films to compile this anthology.
This project aims to spark a widespread debate about the consequences of our impact on nature as human beings, and about the vast and uncontrollable universe that surrounds us
— for we must find a better way to coexist with it. That said, the short films are formally diverse, featuring a wide range of styles and genres from different parts of the world, including Mexico, Brazil, Morocco, and Japan. Science fiction, documentary, children’s animation, drama, travelogue, playful pieces, or comedy.
These authors describe intriguing paradoxes—namely, complex relationships of mutual dependence and symbiosis—that make it difficult to arrive at a simple explanation. Contrary to what might be expected, in many of these works, humanity is not portrayed as the absolute enemy of the natural world
, but rather as a subject capable of both cruelty and compassion, and also as yet another victim of the tragic climate change.
At the same time, the splendor and grandeur with which nature reveals itself in unexpected places—as if the ruins of an ancient empire were about to emerge—highlight the transience of human existence, and the landscapes, imbued with a unique sense of wonder and emotion, appear to be beyond our grasp
and appear timeless in their grandeur. (Andrés Suárez, FICUNAM).
Date: Wednesday, April 15.
Time: 7:00 p.m.
Location: BILBOROCK (Mesedeetako Kaia, 1).
Solasaldia: Antonio Cañas (Greenize).
