Actividad realizada en el marco de la 25ª edición de Macabro, Festival Internacional de Cine de Horror de la Ciudad de México.
En esta charla, el cineasta Paul Urkijo recorrerá las claves de su filmografía que ha convertido la mitología vasca, el folclore y los relatos épicos en el corazón de una de las propuestas más singulares del cine fantástico europeo.
A través de obras como “Errementari”, “Irati” y su más reciente trabajo “Gaua”, explorará cómo las leyendas ancestrales, la fantasía heroica, la espada y brujería y la tradición oral pueden dialogar con el lenguaje cinematográfico para construir universos de una identidad visual y narrativa única.
Un encuentro para descubrir el proceso creativo de un autor que ha situado la mitología vasca en el mapa internacional del cine fantástico, en el que no faltarán referencias y similitudes comunes con la mitología Maya, Mexica y del resto de pueblos originarios.
Moderará el encuentro Xabier Uria, codirector del Festival Caostica de Bilbao (País Vasco).

Hitzaldi honetan, Paul Urkijo zinemagileak euskal mitologia, folklorea eta kontakizun epikoak Europako zinema fantastikoaren proposamen berezienetako baten muin bihurtu dituen bere filmografiaren gakoak aztertuko ditu.
"Errementari", "Irati" eta bere azken "Gaua" lanen bidez, antzinako kondairak, fantasia heroikoa, ezpata eta sorginkeria eta ahozko tradizioa zinema-hizkuntzarekin nola hitz egin dezaketen aztertuko du, identitate bisual eta narratibo paregabeko unibertsoak eraikitzeko.
Euskal mitologia fantasiazko zinemaren nazioarteko mapan kokatu duen egile baten sortze-prozesua ezagutzeko topaketa. Bertan, ez da faltako Maya, Mexiko eta jatorrizko gainerako herrien mitologiarekin bat datozen erreferentzia eta antzekotasunik.
Xabier Uria, Bilboko Caostica Jaialdiko zuzendarikideak moderatuko du topaketa.
Activity carried out in the context of the 25th edition of Macabro, International Horror Film Festival of Mexico City.
In this talk, filmmaker Paul Urkijo will explore the key elements of his filmography, which has placed Basque mythology, folklore, and epic tales at the heart of one of the most unique approaches in European fantasy cinema.
Through works such as “Errementari”, “Irati”, and his most recent film, “Gaua”, he will explore how ancestral legends, heroic fantasy, sword and sorcery, and oral tradition can engage with the language of cinema to construct universes with a unique visual and narrative identity.
This is an opportunity to discover the creative process of an auteur who has placed Basque mythology on the international map of fantasy cinema, revealing references and commonalities with the mythology of the Maya, the Mexica, and other indigenous peoples.
The meeting will be moderated by Xabier Uria, co-director of the Caostica Festival in Bilbao (Basque Country).

Nai es un niño que vive en Phonm Penh, Camboya. Últimamente está teniendo pesadillas con el «Yeak», un monstruo de la tradición khmer que se come a los niños que se portan mal. Michael, su profesor de ingles en la escuela, le dice que los monstruos no existen, que son cuentos de niños. Pero la verdad es muy diferente.

Nai is a boy who lives in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. Lately, he's been having nightmares about the "Yeak," a monster from Khmer folklore that eats naughty children.
