To kick off the 24th edition of the Caostica International Short Film and Music Video Festival—a qualifying event for the 2026 Goya Awards—we are pleased to announce the second edition of the “Sangre Fresca” project call for submissions.
This initiative is designed to support individuals residing in the Basque Autonomous Community (CAV) who are interested in audiovisual production in the Basque Country and are working on their first professional short film, provided they have a certificate of nationality and ICAA certification.
A selection committee will choose the finalists, and an independent panel of professionals will award the prize to the fiction short film that best embodies the fresh, innovative, and daring spirit that defines the Caostica Festival.
Registration will open on the date this call for applications is published and will close on Monday, May 4, 2026.
Projects that have been submitted to previous editions of “Sangre Fresca” will not be selected.
The finalist projects will have the opportunity to pitch their ideas to the jury during the 24th edition of the Caostica International Short Film and Music Video Festival, which will take place from June 1 to 7, 2026, in Bilbao, and the winning project will be announced at the festival’s awards ceremony.
Submitted projects may address any topic, must be works of fiction, and may not exceed 15 minutes in length, including credits. Projects intended to be filmed in either Basque or Spanish are eligible for submission.
Among the objectives of “Sangre Fresca,” we highlight:
-Support and nurture the next generation of Basque audiovisual talent.
-Encourage people of all ages (18 and older) with an interest in audiovisual media.
-To encourage, raise awareness of, and promote the production of short films in the Basque Country.
-Promote patronage for the creation of emerging short films.
Participants should email the following required documents in PDF or Word format to info@caostica.org:
- a) Technical specifications.
- b) Brief synopsis (5 lines).
- c) Detailed Synopsis (1 page).
- d) A complete, final draft of the screenplay with paginated pages (maximum 16 pages) and a certificate of intellectual property registration.
- e) Letters of Intent (1 page).
- f) Resumes of the individuals responsible for the screenplay, direction, production company (registered with the ICAA), and technical supervisors (1 page).
- g) Work plan, timeline, and budget (2 pages).
- h) 1-minute video pitch (optional).
Evaluation criteria:
-Quality and clarity of the script: 40 points.
-Originality and boldness of the proposal: 20 points.
-Feasibility of the production plan: 20 points.
-Communicative intent: 15 points.
-Quality of the project presentation: 5 points.
Awards:
-EPIC FILMS RENTAL: €4,000 worth of camera and lighting equipment + technical mentoring on camera and lighting for the project. There is no minimum spending requirement for each department, but the award is contingent upon all equipment being provided by Epic Films.
-RISK XXI – Occupational Health and Safety& Services: €1,000 for a Health and Safety Manual, Occupational Health and Safety Consulting, and Online Training.
-DISTRIBUTION WITH GLASSES: €1,000 for distribution (6 months). Registration fees not included.
-MAPFRE OFFICE 8416 BILBAO (UGASKO 1): €400 for liability insurance.
The winning short film will be screened as part of the program at the Caostica International Short Film and Music Video Festival.

This initiative is designed to support individuals registered with the Basque Autonomous Community (EAE) who are producing their first professional short film and hold the ICAA’s nationality and qualification certificates, and who are interested in the production of audiovisual works within the Basque Autonomous Community.
A selection committee will choose the finalist projects, and a panel of professional and independent judges will award the prize to the short fiction film project that best embodies the fresh, innovative, and bold spirit that characterizes the Caostica Film Festival.
The application period will begin on the day the call for proposals is published and will close on May 4, 2026.
Projects submitted to previous editions of “Sangre Fresca” will not be eligible to participate.

– We encourage all individuals aged 18 and older who are interested in the Ikus-entzunezkoek program to participate.
– To support, promote, and encourage the production of short films in the Basque Country.
– To promote a campaign to fund the production of a dozen short films that combine visual and audio elements.

- g) Work plan, schedule, and budget (two pages).
- h) A one-minute pitch video (optional).
